This delightful hotel is situated very close to St. Mark's square so one would expect bustle and mayhem; however, because it is down a cul-de-sac, there is no significant pedestrian traffic, making it a quiet and serene hideaway. It is effectively air conditioned throughout, has been recently refurbished to a high standard yet has a true Venetian feel and quaintness. We had frequent changes of linen which was welcome as it was very hot during our stay and the housekeeping kept our rooms spotless. It is not cheap accommodation ( where is in Venice ) but represents excellent value for money. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and fresh based on a continental style but with hot bacon and scrambled eggs available also. As for the staff, they were the icing on the cake. What a calm, friendly, efficient, helpful and loveable bunch they were from front desk (24Hr.) to catering and housekeeping. We are very likely to return. A huge, great big "grazie mille a tutti".

Breakfasts were brilliant, very well provided for with nice tables in two lovely rooms and the two staff were really nice, made us feel very welcome. The room was great and the place is very comfortable and stylish and relaxed. We loved it!! The bed was comfortable and luxurious. With the shutters closed and the curtains it was totally quiet, even during the thunder and lightning. Best of all, it has a fridge (very important for cold water), useful safe, kettle, lots of plugs. But we loved the whole package, the quaintness of it, the traditional charm, the decorative features such as the chandeliers, headboard, wall fabrics. At the end of the corridor there were glass doors leading out to a balcony overlooking the junction of two canals. By far the best thing was the staff. They were wonderful, lovely people. We will definitely go back to the Ateneo, thanks!!!

the first night at the hotel was unbearable. Tiny room with an unbearable smell of cigarettes - I was about to change hotels and lose the money for the stay I had already paid for. We know that the previous guest was to blame but the hotel should have realized before putting us in the room - they came with anti-odor spray but it didn't help.the next day they changed our room and everything changed - Angela and Artemio were very kind and understood our situation perfectly. They gave us a bigger and better room and most importantly, without the smell of cigarettes.

It was a lovely hotel. We had to book at the last minute as the place we had originally booked just outside Venice was awful, and we had to move. We saw the reviews and decided to book the Hotel Ateneo, and we are so glad we did. It was lovely and comfortable. The staff were great and so helpful. We are grateful to them for making our stay in Venice so memorable. We would stay there again, but please give us a room on one of the lower floors next time. The room we had was on the third floor, and there's no lift. But that didn't cause any issues to us.

The hotel is nice, well located, and old school. Staff were very nice and accommodating, and extremely helpful on the day we left. The airport taxi could not come up to the hotel’s dock because of high tide. The lady at the reception desk was on top of things, coordinating with her colleagues to get us to a location where the taxi could pick us up. In the end, one gentleman from their staff carried our luggage to the Grand Canal, where the hotel had booked a taxi for us. That was very impressive, and he wouldn’t even accept our tip.
